A toast to John Hughes

References: Wow. Just Wow. Of all the celebrities and pseudo celebrities that have recently passed, this one has had the most impact on me. I guess I’m revealing my age, but John Hughes wrote for me and my friends, about me and my friends. Well not quite, his characters were cooler and/or dweebier and always said the right things in the right ways. He gave us drama, comedy, rebellion, and inspiration. He gave us a soundtrack for our lives and quotes that we are still repeating 25 years later. He somehow managed to do all this without being condescending.
The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Weird Science, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and Planes Trains and Automobiles are legendary flicks. He also wrote the classic Vacation movies and many more. I promise there will be many John Hughes movie marathons going on this weekend.
