After the grilled lamb
Schlafly Reserve for dessert
Is that macaroon?
Written by Captain Hops.
References: I found a bottle of Schlafly Reserve Oak Aged Imperial Stout and decided to open it last night after eating a particularly good grilled lamb steak. It was the perfect dessert! There were cocoa, vanilla, and toasted coconut flavors going on in there that I couldn’t believe. It tasted a little like chocolate macaroons. There was a lot going on but it was perfectly balanced. What a treat!

I escape the cold
Written by Captain Hops.
References: When it’s cold and icy here on the east coast, I dream about being back on the Big Island. I spent a summer there during my college years earning my keep by doing landscaping, working in a hotel rec department, and busing tables at luaus. It was a time of hard work, mischief, and adventure.
Sometimes, when I’m stuck here in the ice and snow, I try to get back there in my head. All it takes is a six pack of Fire Rock Pale Ale from Kona Brewing and some slow cooked Kalua Pig. Alright, I haven’t dug an imu in my yard and I really wouldn’t be able to finish eating a whole pig by myself. But this crock pot recipe seems to do the trick. Aloha!
